There They Stood – A Poem

I opened the door
and there they stood
it was so good to see them again
my best friends from childhood
their faces were older
but their smiles were the same
my face lit up
as they spoke my name
we sat and talked
about times gone by
adventures past
still fresh before my eyes
we remembered the mischief
the laughter
the good ol’ days
we spoke of what was new
since we went our seperate ways
we came to the same conclusion
time and age
are both an illusion
and when they had gone
I closed my eyes
thankful for today’s surprise
for a moment I had once again been a child
and it had felt good
I opened my eyes and smiled
and there they stood
