Earlier this week, I was bemoaning the fact that most of the video games I have pre-ordered won’t come out until later this fall. Then I remembered that The Sims™ 4 just hit store shelves. So, I hightailed it to Walmart and snagged a copy.

Big Improvements in #TheSims4

I’ve always been a fan of The Sims™ series, but this newest installment is a big leap forward. The first improvement I noticed was the completely rebuilt creative tool set. I had a blast creating SIMs for me and my daughter. The amount of customization available is just crazy. I was able to create a tattooed, scruffy-bearded SIM who likes to wear geeky t-shirts during the day, and glasses and dressy clothes when he’s feeling more formal. Hmmm… something about that sounds very familiar…

Meet the McNerdlys

I plan to make SIMs to represent the rest of my real-life family, too. But for now, here’s my little SIM clan:

Traits, Aspirations, and Whims

It’s not just the creative tools that got an upgrade. In The Sims™ 4, your SIMs have more realistic traits, skills, and personalities that dictate how they behave and interact with their world.

I learned the hard way that my SIM, Timpy McNerdly, isn’t especially handy. He has already set the kitchen – and himself – on fire while trying to cook scrambled eggs. Twice. He’s a bit of an introvert who enjoys writing and playing video games. He’s also a family man who hopes to write a best-selling novel some day.

Timpy tends to get a bit anxious if he spends too much time socializing, but loves to share goofy stories with his kid. Again, very familiar…

Speaking of sharing…

The sharing tools in The Sims™ 4 got some love, too. With the new Gallery function, you can easily share your content with other Sims players. This is a function I plan to spend a lot more time with in the near future. I’m looking forward to seeing what content other players make available through the Gallery.

I also plan to livestream my play sessions of The Sims™ 4 on my Twitch channel. I’m in the process of putting the finishing touches on my new “Command Center,” which will be my livestreaming home.

Just like my SIM counterpart, there have been some bumps in the road while building the Command Center. Some burns, some cuts, some bruises. Fortunately, I haven’t actually set anything on fire. Yet.

Provided I don’t go “Full Timpy” and burn the house down, look for me to be livestreaming The Sims™ 4 very soon.

Just plain fun

I am having a ton of fun playing The Sims™ 4. The upgraded SIM personalities are hilarious to behold. Call me immature, but when, during my most recent play session, Timpy teased Papie and the game gave me the option to have Papie “take an angry poop,” I knew I was hooked for life.

Oh, and did I mention there’s an awesome contest going on?
