Make Your Voice Heard with Sean Astin’s Vox Populi

Disclosure: Sean Astin has provided a gift in exchange for helping get the word out about the new season of Vox Populi Radio. Regardless, all opinions are my own and are sincere.
Sean Astin

Goonie, hobbit, pundit, host. Sean Astin does it all.

Before starting Review Dad, I was a bit of a political junky. I blogged about politics. I attended political conferences. I even co-hosted a political podcast.

And then, I just stopped.

Why? Because I grew tired of screaming into the wind. I was tired of not being able to have a civil discussion – both with my political opponents and with my supposed allies. Everywhere I looked, I saw ego and agenda trumping discourse, compassion, and desire to affect real change.

So, when I learned about Sean Astin’s (yes, that Sean Astin) Vox Populi radio show, I dared to let a bit of hope seep through my frustration with the current political climate.

Voice of the ‘Occasionally Interested’ People

Airing on Thursdays from 12 to 2 PT, on its new home at TradioV, Vox Populi is getting ready to kick off its 2nd season, starting May 1st.

What has me excited about a political radio show? The fact that Sean is dedicated to providing a forum for people to learn, discuss, and be heard, in a civil manner. To me, that is so key. Without civility, there can be no true discussion.

And here’s the kicker: Sean and I are on opposite sides of the political aisle. We think differently. We vote differently. We have different worldviews. But we both see the value in being able to rationally discuss important issues with people outside of our immediate political spheres. And not just those who live, eat, and breathe politics. Vox Populi’s slogan is Voice of the ‘Occasionally Interested’ People.

Plus, the fact that the show is hosted by the guy that played my favorite character (Samwise Gamgee), in my favorite movie trilogy of all time (The Lord of the Rings), doesn’t hurt. I think the only person who might be more excited about the mixture of Middle-earth and politics is my former co-host – and fellow nerd – Shannon.
