Norton Core

A history of Norton

When I was 14, I got my first PC. This was before the internet and before Windows. In order to navigate my files, I had to learn how to use MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) commands. Then I discovered Norton Commander, which gave me a much easier interface to work with.

Nine years later, I went online for the first time and learned the value of a good antivirus program. Once again, my program of choice was a Norton product.

Today, 30 years after experiencing Norton for the first time, I am still using the latest Norton technology. This tells me two things:

  1. I’m old
  2. Norton produces the most reliable tech I’ve ever used
Norton Core

Norton Core is a secure, high-performance WiFi router that helps protect your home network and an unlimited number of your connected devices, including computers, mobile and smart home devices against malware, viruses, hackers, and cybercriminals before they can infiltrate your home and compromise your personal information.

1,101 threats blocked?!? Holy cow. Thank goodness for Norton Core.

I recently switched to a Norton Core router and have been incredibly impressed with the performance. The Core does what it used to take three separate devices to do; it provides faster, higher-quality WiFi than my old router, it protects more of our networked devices from malware, viruses, phishing tactics, and botnets than our old network security device, and because of its unique design and power, the signal reaches our entire house, allowing me to get rid of our old WiFi extender device.

Let’s just recap for a second. The Norton Core router replaced my old router, my network security device, AND my WiFi extender. It does a better job than all three of those devices combined and takes up less space than my old router. I can’t think of any other device I’ve ever purchased that replaced THREE other devices in my home.

Parental controls

My absolute favorite feature of the Norton Core is the ability to control every networked device’s level of internet access through the Norton Core smartphone app. Everything was so easy to set up and use. Within minutes of finishing initial setup of the router, I was able to use the app to assign individual devices to different family members, specify what type of content was appropriate for each family member, set individual bedtimes that automatically pause the internet on devices, and individual times that each family member’s internet resumes each day.

The Norton Core app also tells me, at a glance, what internet speed I’m currently getting, whether there are any threats that need to be addressed, and what content my family is consuming online.

I was even able to give our gaming and video streaming devices preferential service to ensure that they get the lion’s share of the bandwidth.

The Verdict

I’m thrilled with the Norton Core. It replaced three larger devices, was easy to set up, and has required very little input from me since the initial set-up. The Core has been a great reminder of why I’ve trusted Norton technology for three decades and will continue to do so in the future.
