Friday Favorites: Orphan Black, Lindsey Stirling, Hearthstone, A7X

Orphan Black

Orphan Black is back! Starring Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, Tatiana Maslany, and Tatiana Maslany.

Welcome to the first installment of Review Dad’s Friday Favorites! This is where I share with you the things I’ve been enjoying.

First up, we’ve got the best television show that you’re not watching.

Orphan Black

Sure, there’s a new season of Game of Thrones, but there’s another show that just started its new season, which I’m just as excited about. That show is Orphan Black.

What would you do if you saw a stranger who looked exactly like you step in front of a train and kill themselves? That’s what happens in the opening scene of the opening episode of Orphan Black.

To try to boil down the plot of Orphan Black by saying, “It’s a show about clones,” would be a huge disservice. But… well, it’s a show about clones. And it’s really well done. The writing, the acting… oh, the acting. Tatiana Maslany will make you forget you are watching the same person play several of the show’s characters. She’s that good.

Here’s the season 2 trailer:

Amazon Instant Video has all the Orphan Black Season 1 episodes, and they’re free to watch for Prime members.

Next, a couple of awesome songs that I can’t (and don’t want to) get out of my head.

Lindsey Stirling – Shatter Me

It’s no secret that I love Lindsey Stirling’s music. I own her first album, I’ve been to her live show, and I’m going to get to meet her in June. So, when I found out she had a new album on the way, I pre-ordered that puppy right away.

I’m glad I did. Lindsey has already released a couple of singles from the new album and they are fantastic. I especially love the title song, Shatter Me, featuring another of my favorite musicians, Lzzy Hale from Halestorm. Here’s the newly-released video:

Shatter Me is available on CD and digital download.
Avenged Sevenfold – Hail To The King

My taste in music is eclectic but, if I had to put a label on myself, I’d say I’m a rocker at heart. And Avenged Sevenfold’s Hail To The King straight up rocks. Since discovering this song, I’ve listened to it at least 5 times a day. I just can’t get enough of those guitars. Here’s the video:

Last, but not least, the game that’s been consuming my free time.

What do you get when the creators of World of Warcraft try their hand at an online collectible card game? The end of my free time, that’s what. Hearthstone is Blizzard’s answer to Magic: The Gathering – and it’s a great answer. It’s also free to play.

In addition to the PC and Mac versions, there’s now an iPad version. Here’s the announcement trailer:

Hearthstone is available to play for free. If you’d like to hit me up for a game, my BattleTag is RWNerd#1880.

So, that’s what’s been geeking me out, this week. What have you been enjoying? Let me know in the comments. Who knows, maybe I’ll feature it in an upcoming Friday Favorites!
