Fix the OpenGL error in Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Nazis. I hate these guys.

If you’re seeing an error like the one pictured below when attempting to load Return to Castle Wolfenstein in Steam, have no fear. The fix is very easy.

The error:

Return to Castle Wolfenstein

If you’re looking for a solution to this error, you’ve come to the right place.

The reason for the error:

The most common reason for seeing this error is that you selected a screen resolution that your monitor isn’t compatible with. Unfortunately, Return to Castle Wolfenstein doesn’t allow do-overs. At least, not directly.

The fix:

Fortunately, fixing this issue is extremely easy. You will need to navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main on your computer. Your path may not be exactly the same, but it should be close. Once you locate the \Return to Castle Wolfenstein\Main directory, look for the file called wolfconfig.cfg and delete it.

You should now be able to launch Return to Castle Wolfenstein without getting the error message and choose a screen resolution that your system will accept. If you accidentally choose a resolution that locks you out of the game again, simply delete wolfconfig.cfg and try again.
