A Poet’s Confession – A Poem

I write not for wealth
what price does one put on their soul?
I write not for fame
to leave my mark on the world was never my goal
I write not for myself and rarely for friends
I have no helpful advice, few messages to send
I write to quiet the words that dance in my mind
often misunderstood and sometimes unkind
I write to voice what I’m often too afraid to say
or vent my frustrations from a miserable day
but mostly I write because it’s all worthwhile
when sharing my thoughts can make just one person smile
if it touches another and helps them to see
just a little bit of themselves in this little bit of me
