Scream – A Poem

I sit in the dark
no need for the light
nothing left to see
afraid of the night
memories of laughter
hazy in my mind
too distant to grasp
too far away to find
I want to run away
but I’m moving too slow
the darkness holds me back
nowhere left to go
I search for a reason
a place I belong
but all I hear are lyrics
to an old, empty song
I look around
it becomes clear to me
these shadows I dwell in
are where I’m meant to be
in a world of uncertainty
embrace the pain I feel
it’s the only absolute
the one thing I’m sure is real
I question my sanity
was it all just a dream?
I open my mouth
but have no voice left to scream
