Top 5 Video Game Picks for First-Quarter 2014

Note: After this post was published, Sony announced the release date for the PS4 version of MLB 14: The Show will be May, 2014. This pushes it into the 2nd quarter of 2014. But, since the PS3 and Vita versions are still scheduled for an April 1st release, I’m leaving it in my picks. And yeah, I realize April 1st is technically 2nd quarter, too. Close enough. 😉

It’s been a while since I last played a really great game. I played through a bunch of fantastic games in 2013. I finished BioShock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Ghosts, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, Deadpool, Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. But the last couple of months have been pretty sparse. That’s why, when I was looking at my list of pre-ordered games, this weekend, I was happy to see the drought is coming to an end.

Here’s what’s on my video game menu for the next couple of months (release dates are never absolutely, 100% set-in-stone):

February 25, 2014

I have high hopes for this next-gen reboot of the classic PC game. Especially since it’s the first of my pre-ordered games to be available in 2014.

March 11, 2014

I spent some time, this weekend, drooling over gameplay videos of this one. It gives off a Halo-crossed-with-Mechwarrior vibe, and it looks completely awesome. This is probably the game I’m looking forward to the most, right now.

inFamous: Second Son

March 21, 2014

I’ll be honest. I haven’t had much reason to turn on my PlayStation 4, so far, other than Netflix. I’m hoping inFamous: Second Son will change that. The new power set looks very cool.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

March 25, 2014

I finished the core Diablo III game four or five times. With the addition of the Crusader class in the Reaper of Souls expansion, I’m looking forward to diving back into Diablo III.

MLB 14: The Show

April 1, 2014 for PS3 and Vita, May, 2014 for PS4

The Show is to me what Madden is to most other sports video gamers: an annual must-buy. With the technological improvements that are being made to the series’ first PlayStation 4 outing, this year’s The Show promises to devour even more of my gaming time than previous versions – and that’s saying a lot. There are certain games that I would own a specific console to play, and The Show is one of them. MLB 14: The Show is right up there with Titanfall, on my excitement meter.

So, that’s what I’ll be playing over the next couple of months. Which games will you be picking up? Let me know in the comments section!
